Family Visa for spouse and child of UK Citizen

Post by UKGuyLondon » Thu Aug 27, 2009 7:31 am

Hello,

I am a UK Citizen by Descent. I am married to a Pakistani wife and have a son who was also born in Pakistan.

If i wish to travel to UK with my wife and son via a Family Permit visa, can I simply take them with me on a plane and will they be granted a visa at UK immigration or is there another way to do this?

Is there a time limit on this category of a visa?

Thanks in advance.

Why are you applying for this? Have you exercised your treaty rights in another EU country, and are now returning to the UK with your family?
Whatever the case, you cannot 'just take them with me on a plane', with no visa at all! They simply won't be allowed to embark!

Hi Rozen,

Actually, I have applied for a settlement visa for my wife and son. We applied from Karachi in mid July and are still waiting for a decision. I have not lived in the EU nor exercised any sort of treaty rights. We have submitted in a fresh application and my wife has travelled to the UK many times without any refusals on her passport.

I learnt about the family permit visa while browsing these forums and was wondering how it works. The questions which came to my mind were...

Can I use this visa to travel to UK with them for a vacation and avoid paying the heavy visit visa fees?

Is my family eligible for this type of a visa?

What will be the duration of this type of visa for my family?

Thanks!

No, you are not eligible to apply for this type of visa.
