Immigration to Spain

Post by sparafucile » Wed Oct 19, 2005 3:26 am

Hello!
I read on the spanish consulate's website something I had heard about Spain's new immigration law, that allowed grandchildren of spanish citizens obtain citizenship AFTER residing legally in Spain for a year.

I believe this specifically addresses grandchildren of spanish emigrants who went to live in Latin America that with the older law couldn't apply for spanish citizenship.

Well, I would like to know if any of you have any idea if this law actually exists and if this kind of thing is really being done. I am myself the granddaughter of a Spanish citizen, have been exploring the possibility of living in Spain for a while, and this is the only possibility I have of getting a spanish citizenship.

Thanks a lot!! I'm really looking forward to your comments and experiences, if anyone has tried this before!!

Pat,

I have done a bit of research into this, and you can have a look at the official government website which describes the process of acquisition of Spanish nationality.

Good luck

Rogerio, thanks for replying.
where do you think I could find more specific information (like whether residence as student would do or not)?? the information there is a little vague (it just mentions legal residence but doesn't clarify what is and what is not applicable).
thanks again,
Pat

Pat,

Please check the below.

http://www.consuladoespanasp.org.br/gui ... &id_guia=2

It provides more specific information. What country do you come from? Any chance you can visit the embassy of Spain in such country? Or maybe go to the Spanish Dept of Immigration?

Sorry I could not be of further help... maybe other posters here could give you more info.

Rogerio
