Applying for Tier1(general) from outside UK

Post by Arjun_123 » Wed Sep 02, 2009 5:31 pm

Hello everybody,

My friend is planning to come to UK under Tier 1 (general) visa (note: he has never been to UK before). He is qualified and has more than enough points according to points calculator. He wants to apply next month, but he is not pretty sure about his visit to UK, I mean once he have his visa, he may come in Jan 2010 or may 2010. So my question is

1) Can he apply for Tier 1 (general) any time in a year or is it that he can apply for one only in April as H1 b for USA.
2) If yes for question one and say he has got his visa by 01-oct-09, can he come to UK after May or June 2010?
3) Or does he need to be in UK within 6 months after the visa issue date?

Sry if my queries sound silly. But any help is appreciated. Thank you very much in advance.

2)wud that 5 yr be counted from visa issue dates or his physical presence in uk?

3)and do he need to be working all the time or is it ok if he is living without a pay for some time?

yes he should be- depending on what the immigration rules as then
Arjun_123 wrote:2)wud that 5 yr be counted from visa issue dates or his physical presence in uk?
from the date of first entry in UK

Not working for short durations is ok. The applicant should remain economically active throughout the period or atleast be seen as trying to remain economically active. We are still waiting detailed and final form of the provisions re the same as part of the revised immigration bill/ rules.
