My child needs to register as a british citizen

Post by confusing » Fri Sep 11, 2009 3:10 pm

Hi,

My child was born in the uk few months ago before I was granted ILR. Now that I have been granted the ILR, under section 1(3), my child can register for british citizenship.

One of the required docs, is a certified copy of my passport where it shows my details and the ILR visa stamp.

the question is where can I have it certified and how much does it cost? I have been told that an MP can also certify it, how can do that and is it free?

Thanks

Any solicitor can do. Costs roughly 5 to 10 quid!

confusing, but better than that, submit your child's Registration application using NCS. That way, you take along your actual passport, and the NCS office will photocopy it and hand it straight back to you ..... and well as checking the application.

Thank John and Rozen,

do NCS have an office around Milton keynes?

Does it cost anything to do it through NCS?

Not Sure they have a branch in Milton Keynes, but you can check this link and see which one is closest to your place.

I would say, that is worth it. They do check the application, to ensure that the form MN1 has been completed OK, and of course you would cut out the cost of getting certified copy of passport.

Also, and UKBA officially deny this, but applications submitted via NCS do tend to get dealt with quicker than ones posted to Liverpool.
