Dependant Application - marriage certificate

Post by nirmal_kishore » Mon Sep 28, 2009 3:06 pm

Hello Folks
I am applying next week in person at Croydon for a Work Permit to Tier 1 (switching) visa. I think I have all documents ready however the condition (physically) of my marriage certificate has been bothering me for a while. Basically it is on this 'bigger than A4 but smaller than A3' kind of strange size and due to the size I had to fold it for a few years. The certificate has now developed some cracks on all the fold lines and can quite easily be torn unless carefully handled.
I am sure there are few similar cases out there and was wondering what you did. One thing I am considering is to go into the Indian Embassy London and request a sworn affidavit to support the marriage certificate.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Nirmal

If your particulars written on the certificate are not damaged and can be read easily, then there would be no problem. You could put it in some folder with A3 size plastic covers. It is always better to protect originals.

If possible, you could ask for a duplicate original copy of the certificate, for peace of your mind.

Those extending from HSMP to Tier 1, do they need marriage certificate for the extension of their dependant visa?
