UK Tier 1 Migrant Visa (English Language Requirement Proof))

Post by krishna1215 » Thu Oct 01, 2009 11:07 pm

Hi All,
Please share your experiences regarding English Language Proof (Degree or Masters taught in English)
===================================
I am applying for UK Tier 1 Visa and I could see my Qualificaiton (MSC(IT)) and the university in the PBS calculator in UK Web site.

Would it be sufficient, if I just submit my Original Certificate (MSC(IT)) + Mark lists for ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROOF or would they need a letter from the university mentioning that it was taught in english.

In PBS calculator I am able to select my education + English language without any problems and it awarded points too.

I have completed graduation 20 yrs back and MS 10 yrs back (Distance education) . Its v difficult for me to get that Certificate as I am abroad and its been long time.

Please let me know regarding this. Moreover Should I mention them that I did my MSC(IT) Distance education .. Or its not neceassary.

I am very much confused regarding these 2 aspects. Please help me out as my filing date is next week.

Thanks a lot in Advance.

If your degree, by putting exact particulars as mentioned on it, in the PBS calculator, awards you points for education (35 or 50 points) as well as English Language requirement (10 points), then you do not need any additional proof.
They do not ask that if you got degree by distant education. They just need to know the country from where you got degree, institute name, start date, date of award, major and is it Master/PhD level.

English Language Requirements

Hi,
Thanks for the link . Could you please let me know the Link to see where these mentioned points are in PBS UK website. I couldn't find them.

The one which you had mentioned in link.

Please see Guidance page 33 of 49:

191. Where the degree was taken in another country we will always assess it using the points based calculator on our website. The calculator contains information from UK NARIC on whether overseas qualifications are equivalent to United Kingdom Bachelors level or higher.

192. Applicants can claim points when the points based calculator confirms that the degree:
• meets or exceeds the equivalent level to United Kingdom Bachelors degree; and

• was taught to a competent standard of English equivalent to level C1 on the Council of Europe’s Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment (CEFR).

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/pointscalculator

Points-based calculator - your attributes points total is XYZ
English language
In this section, you must score ten points for your English language skills at the time of application or your application will be refused.

If you are from a majority English speaking country you can automatically claim ten points for English language skills.

If you are not from a majority English speaking country, you can claim points either for an English language test or a degree taught in English equivalent to a bachelor's degree or above in the United Kingdom.

How would you like to claim points for English language skills?
- I am a national from a majority English speaking country
- I have a qualification that was taught in English select it and see if your education qualify or not?.
- I have passed an approved English language test
- I do not want to claim points for English language skills (your application will be refused)

Thanks a lot. Appreciate all the help.

Looks like people just put that letter from their university that degree was taught in english only as additional proof though its not required.

Its not mandatory at all . Thats what I understood. Thanks a lot
