What is current situation of Software QA/Testing jobs in uk?

Post by softlogic20 » Tue Sep 15, 2009 12:01 pm

Hello Every One,
I am Software QA professional with 5 years experience. Recently I got HSMP and planning to come UK at the end of this month. I see many jobs on different recruitments web sites but I am not sure if these are real or fake. Also I wonder why someone will post a fake job?
Please guys advise/comment on this situation especially if some QA guy can say something about Software QA in UK jobs now days.

Thanks and best regards,
Kash

Please read the below text from one of members, thought could help you..

I am a Tier-1 holder came to UK in March 2009. 6 months over now, planned to return to my "old dream land" Bangalore. I want to know how is Bangalore IT Job sitn now..?

I do have 8 years experience in Bangalore's No2 ITcompany. I can not survive here any more & house contract terminated now. I felt sorry for paying around 8 lakhs of my hard earned money here, but no hope. Now its Sep next better time will be Apr 2010. I may not be able to survive till that..Even Apr 2010 is not loking that bright.

Who all recruiting in Bangalore now..?. I am not putting my last 6 months a job search in my CV, so have to say I am returning due to family reasons..

My area (testing/QA/Test management) is most terrible..Also now "UK jobs for UK workers" is teh anthem..

Its terrible here... [/b]

Hi Softlogic,

In the current market, I am sure nobody can generalize the situation like Mainframes is good or dotnet is good or XYZ is good.I agree that some technologies are dead(Example is Mainframe).Though market is good for some technologies still I would say right now the market is individual specific. There are lots of EU,NON-EU people in the current market with loads of exp.Basically companies have choice.

According to me, following are the key areas for getting a job in Uk right now. This is only my personal opinion.I am not generalizing it.

1.Europe or Uk exp.

2.Communication Skills(It will be tested by Consultant during yr conversation with him. Here consultants play a big role unlike in India.)

3.Cover letter must and CV with full Uk address and yr visa details.

3.Skillset(Why only u despite having lots of people unless it is a rare skill)

More over u should say u r open to any position and for any salary range.Becoz they r looking for best quality for cheap price.

before going there do some research in internet on how UK CV looks like and etc...I explored diff. sites given by google.I explored all that when I was in India.

Try to get UK SIM from any of yr friends and start applying for jobs. This should tell u the market value of yr CV.If u receive some calls and interviews are getting scheduled, u r good to go to UK still with bit of risk.

Regards,
Chandra

Technology industry is hard to fall down all of it. It has demands all over and the demand is growing day by day.

I suggest you hold tight and learn new things to keep yourself in demand in the market.
