a friend of mine recently got married abroad and he is bankrupt which will end dec 2012 ( i mean to open an account with banks ) now how can he prove his saving and other bank statments .... ! does he have to wait untill 2012 till end of his bankrupcy ?

There are banks who will open an very basic account for an undischarged bankrupt. The Co-operative Bank are fairly lenient...or Post Office account.

By the way the Post Office account is only used to pay benefits in and nothing else !!!!

Yes Casa is correct Co operative bank have a cashminder account and Natwest also do a Step account......maybe your friend would be better calling and making an appointment and applying for one of them.

Its all well trying to open a bank account, but they can jsut as quiickly be shut down once the banks find you you have an an insolvency order against your name ...... and whats worse you can loose all the money in that account.

Whilst it not a requirement that you have to supply bank statements as part of ones application, you have to however prove that you have sufficient funds to support your spouse without recourse to public funds.

Because you cant prove this by way of bank statements, I think if the applicant applied, it will be refused on the grounds the sponsor can not support and accomadate the applicant . So I would say they have to wait til 2012 before applying once the Order has expired

Would be nice to see what others say about my comments
