Is a housewife eligible for citizenship on basis of marriage

Post by Takwa » Fri Oct 09, 2009 1:25 am

I have been living in the UK for the last 9 years; have married for three and half years; my husband is a British, I gained permanent residence/ ILR on May last year. I am now a full-time housewife planning to apply for UK passport.

On the naturalization application form section 3, Good Character Requirement, where asks all the details of my employment. Since I have been a housewife for more than 18 months, can I just leave that part blank?

I have never benefited from any treaty rights in the UK; will my application be refused just because I am currently unemployed?

Can somebody clarify this for me? Thank you very much!

Put "housewife".

They want to check that you are of generally good character. That is the point of a lot of the questions. They are looking for bad things that mean they should refuse the application.

Being a housewife is not generally considered grounds for refusing a naturalization application. Nor is there a requirement that you are working for pay.
