Canadian moving to the UK

Post by althecanuck » Sat Nov 14, 2009 11:23 pm

I am Canadian married to the UK citizen(born there). We have been living together for 7 years and have been officially married for just over a year. We live in Canada. We are evaluating possibility of moving to the UK. A few questions:
1) From what I understand I apply for spousal visa. Is work permit granted with that visa or is it a separate application that has to be filed?
2) Am I eligible for ILR due to 6.5 years of civil union + 1 year of marriage or does only legal marriage count?
3) What are typical timelines for spousal visa processing at UK consulate in Toronto?

Thanks,
Alex

Found stats on processing times here:

The rest of the questions remain as well as this new one:

- If we are moving together how can my wife prove that she had settled in the UK?
- Also does she have to arrive with me or before me for me to be eligible to enter?
