Specialist/Senior experience

How does one prove specialist/senior experience for say 1 yr.
I have a few letters from my co
The most recent one stating that as part of the organistion strructure I have been assigned the role of a Senior Technical associate , would that be good enough for the HSMP guys

I have another letter stating that I have been promoted to Software Design engineer as of last year and which has the dates mentioned as well(last years of course)

Or should I supply in both ?
Would I need to provide more details than the above two letters
Would personal references from work do ?

Any letter/ reference in relation to claimed points for work experience at the standard and/or senior/specialist level must clearly state your duties, responsibilities and tasks. Mention of the word senior and length of service on its own does not highlight the scope of your work now does it? You must submit documents covering any claimed work experience with the minimum being at least one item aprt from the income section where you need two pieces of evidence as a minimum - the more evidence (as long as it is relevant) you have the better. Character/ personal references are not acceptable - they can always say anything can't they .

yes I know what you are saying but the problem is its very hard to get that sort of information from your company...would references from work ie client site make a difference

What they want to see is a formal description of job responsibilities - and that presumably comes from your former boss or Personnel Department. Any references from friends, co-workers or clients are secondary, as they may not have been in position to know your formal responsibilities -- things are not always what they appear to outsiders.

Sometimes annual reviews may serve as such documents, as they may deal with how successful you were with fulfilling your work duties, but then again, if it says "Mr. Smith has been too harsh on staff reporting to him", it doesn't really indicate were there 2 staff or 200 staff working for you.

Obviously, you can only do your best and not more than that in obtaining documentation supporting your point claims, but do try to get formal unequivocal indicators of whatever seniority you claim.

I'm just collecting all the stuff for HSMP app. After extensive reading I have quite clear idea about all but the one point:

What are the distinctive features of a "specialist" position as opposite to senior one?

I had been working as an IT specialist, as many here. I can't associate any "seniority" with that my job, but i definitely was a "specialist"!! (IMHO:))

" A specialist position is normally envisaged to be one that may not have any particular managerial role but requires a very high level of technical or artistic expertise."

"A position recognised as specialised within the individual’s field of employment.
Work experience gained in jobs that normally require specialist skills or in shortage
occupations does not in itself count as specialist level work experience. For
example, a dentist would have to demonstrate specialised expert knowledge of a

level work experience."

sorry for extensive citation, but that is all the availible info!!!

My question is:
How "a dentist" can demonstrate his "specialised expert knowledge"?

Could you provide examples of evidence? Examples of Statements in an employer letter that support this would be even more helpful.
