Time between Approval and Biometric Card/Length of Visa

Post by uklatino » Tue Dec 22, 2009 12:07 am

Hi,

I received word today from my solicitor that all documents had been returned to their office and my application had been successful. I am a PhD student on a 3 year programme and had been advised that the Home Office might grant anywhere from 1 to 3 years. So two questions:

1. How long does it normally take from the time documents are returned with approval and time of receipt of the biometric card,

2. Does the HO generally award the full period of study or one year at a time?

I don't know if this makes any difference, but I have been in the UK since 2005 studying for 2 years and then two years under post-study worker visa.

Thanks!!!

If it was tier4 application usually they are giving for whole course length and you visa would have started since the expiry date of your previous visa for example your previous visa was expiring in april 2009 and you made an application for the extension but you received your passport back in december 2009 only but on your new leave to remain will be from may 2009 to may 2012. if they gave you for 3 years if less it will for less duration.

Thanks for your response!! So if I understand correctly, as my post-study worker visa expires in January 2010 and assuming I received the full 3 years, my new visa would expire sometime in early 2013? (I thought I read somewhere that you get 3 years plus 4 months.)
