Relationship proof

Hey guys,

I'm a UK citizen and my wife is a US citizen currently here on a student visa. We met on the internet in 2004 but didn't want to rush into anything so she decided to come here on a student visa to see how things go after visiting me once before that. We lived together for a while and then got married. In a few months we hope to switch her to a spousal visa flr(m). I'm starting to worry as I don't think we have enough relationship proof. We obviously have the marriage certificate and photos through out our relationship. Some proof of sending mail back and forth (letters, parcels) but nothing that shows daily contact. I have about 18 emails that were saved. However, most of the time we talked on messengers and never saved the chat logs (we were very ignorant about the immigration process back then). Can someone please advise me on what we should do? Is what we have sufficient.

All u have to show is;

1. Proof of relationship being genuine

2. U have somewhere to live.

3. U can afford to live without extra Public Fund for ur spouse.

But;

U may have a problem proving ur partner is/was a genuine student at the time as it could be construed as deception, ie using a student visa as settlement visa. For this u need prove study was genuine, attendance and satisfactory progress as well as maybe proving study in UK was relevant to her career etc.

myself and my missus chatted every day via online chat and had no logs, I wrote that in the covering letter and included about 30 photos, a few emails, and my mobile phone bills showing where I'd sent her half a dozen text messages a week, and a couple of plane tickets we had from a holiday we shared and we didn't have any problems

they'll ask her a barrage of questions about you, your family, your job (possibly even your eye colour), and they'll go by how quickly and confidently she answers more than having reams of emails etc.

Wow cheers for the speedy responses.

Wanderer, will satisfactory marks be enough proof that she is a genuine student? Her attendance was nearly 100% first year but this year she's been ill a lot so her attendance I would say is a bit over 50%. It was nothing major, more so flu-like so she didn't go to the gp.

Andy, I wasn't aware that they interview the applicant. We were going to send in a postal application.

Hmm, perhaps an out-of-country app. might be more prudent, then they won't ask/care about her student record.

I'm the pessimistic one though, but with a potential ban for deception in the balance, I'd prefer to be pessimistic...

Has she worked over her 20hrs ever? They do check now....

She hasn't worked at all. Never even applied for an NI number.

Hmm, an out of country app sounds like the way to go. Luckily in the states they have expeditors!

Do you think what we have will suffice (relationship evidence) if she does apply from the us?

so basically just some mailed letters, proof of mailed parcels, screenshot of emails spanning from 2006-2008 (nearly monthly). Greeting cards and pictures. I can't think of much else. This is incredibly frusterating. Apparently I've been told that because she's applying from the US they don't put as much emphasis on these things as accommodation and finances. Is that true?

Oh yes they do put as much emphasis on things as accomodation and finance even if she comes from the US , know that by watching ukborder on ITV.
To avoid any surprise , don t take them lightly.

My apologies bbbb, I meant, I was told that the finances and accomodation aspect of the visa is a lot more important than pics, emails etc... proving the relationship is genuine. Sorry, I'm just starting to panic as we can't turn back time and save all of our corespondance.

Proofs (emails ....) showing that your relationship is genuine are as important as both finance and accommodation.

From what I read you have enough to show that your relationship is genuine.

I advise you to see a sollicitor to help u to put what u have together. Stop stressing.
