Name Issue on Passport

Post by alibokhari » Sat Jan 02, 2010 10:59 am

Hi everyone,

I am in a bit of a dilema here. I got married in Nov 09 and now I am applying for my wife visa who is based in Pakistan.

The prob is, my name appearing on passport is Ali R. Bokhari but on my pakistani ID its apearing as Syed Ali R. Bokhari. so when my wife new id and passport was made it appeared on her ID and Passport as WIFE OF or W/O Syed Ali R. Bokhari.

I am worried my name does not match with the name appearing on my wife passport (only the SYED part) and therefore she will be refused visa.

any advice/suggestions please - much appreciated and thanks in advance

Ali B.

NB: By the way I am on ILR and on all my documents here in UK my name appears without "Syed" apart from my ACCA membership certifivcate which shows "Syed Ali R. Bokhari" - I have send the orignal membership certificate for visa application

please help thanks

Firstly, may I congratulate on obtaining the ILR in the first place... I remember reading a PM from you recently dated AGES ago :))) How did you go about your days-out-of-the-country issue? Followed my 2 passport approach? :))

This should not be a massive problem, as you would have the same date of birth, which is extremely important and nationality.

This is simply another first name you are/were known by. When did you get your ID card? If you got it AFTER you have obtained your current passport, or ILR, then it is understandable that you could change your name at any time. As on every application form they ask if you are also known by other names, and by the time of your ILR application you didn't have the ID card, you could state that you gave your answer to the best of your knowledge. Simply write a letter to the HO, stating your ILR ref. no, enclosing your Paki ID and notifying them of your additional name by which you are known. So they wouldn't be surprised.

I personally think you are overreacting. If your ID was issued before your ILR, they might ask some questions, but still, I doubt they would make a big deal out of it. At the end of the day, it is YOU on both docs.

All the above is my own conclusions. I wouldn't panic much.

Thanks for your reply - I provided all the relevant letters from my employers and was in Liverpool office (same day service)..the officer wasnt surprised but even after looking at the days being out of the country surprisingly she didnt ask anything, it was only when her manager made a point and she asked for the letters. but overall she was ok and didnt say anything and ILR got approved

With regards to the current scenario, you quite rite i think I can put in where it says "known by other names" and can also attach attested copy of my ID by solicitor hmm let me think about it

thanks for your help mate.. cheers

PS: £600 for the visa application + 3-6 months processing time - one should panic haha cheers
