Applying from HSMP from SEGS

Post by m_a_r_z » Sun Dec 11, 2005 5:26 pm

Hi all,
I finished my MBA last year in the UK and I am working for a blue chip technology company. I am authorized to work under SEGS scheme for a year. I only had 5 months left on my SEGS visa when I started working this year. I need to convert to another 'work visa' early next year. As I have just worked for 4 months and based on the 4 months earnings, my annual income is well above 40K. But I can't claim the points until I 've worked for last 12 months. In essence, my hsmp application points fall below 65.

education 25
6 years work experience including 2 years manegerial role 25

I was wondering if there is any consideration for people on SEGS scheme to give them some relaxation for the earning point or could there be any other way, I could apply for HSMP. You know, it may take few months to find a suitable job after graduation so I had to wait for about 6 months on SEGS visa before I could find a good job.

To give you an idea, I am working with my employer through a contracting company. My employer (big 5 market player) is very much willing to keep me in the job and are ready to offer a further 1 to 2 years contract if it helps with HSMP/visa thing.

I will highly appreciate if you guys could advise me about the possible path/roadmap in order to extend my work visa on HSMP /WP. What 'd be the quick process ?.

Thanks for you insight and comments.

From which UK institution did you obtain your MBA?

As far as I know, its not on MBA provision list but LBS is.
Appreciate your views.

1. AFAIK if the MBA awarding institution is not on the list then nil points on the MBA matrix. Is MBA from Queens deemed to be from the same body awarding that from LBS i.e. collegiate system...I suspect not but clarify with the relevant registrer.

2. IMHO only way forward is to try and get a WP sponsored. This will get you to the 12 month mark or until you make 40K for income points. Sorry there is no 'relaxation' of earnings...it makes no sense to have an objective points based system if you bend the rules when clearly the relevant condition has not been met.

Kayalami, Thank you !

1- I will check with my college about the MBA.
2. I found out from my contracting company (agency) that agencies can't apply for the WP so they can't apply. Who else is eligible to sponsor my WP? Is it worth calling HO to ask for their guidance especially when my employer can offer me a contract for another year?

Are there any pointers (materials, contacts) I can use to get sponsorship for my WP?

Thanks.

Applying to relevant employers directly is the only way. Large firms have a history of sponsoring workpermits if you have the right skill set....you need to use the contacts you have established to date with help on this. I don't know your skill set (and that to the appropriate content) to make an informed judgement on your chances of success. Out of interest I believe SEGS is for engineers/ science based grads...how does the MBA fit into this?

How much were you earning before u became a student. I believe one can consider one's last 12 month working period for points in case they've taken a break to study (or whatever). Considering you say you are earning well above the required 40k per annum maybe adding the 8 months from previous employment will get u points !!!

Sorry for taking a while to write again. Just been very busy with looking into the options and reading through the materials.
Kayalami - My MBA is related to technology management. That's why it was part of the SEGS.

Mini - Thanks. What does happen if previous 9 months are not in the same country. And its not secondment either either?

I am on SEGS and I plan to apply for HSMP soon. Can you plz give me an idea if I can apply for FLR(IED) before I receive HSMP approval letter ? I am asking just in case I don't receive the approval letter before my visa expires. If the answer is in positive, would it enable me to continue working for my exisiting employer and stay in the country until FLR is pending. Its just critical because I don't want to lose my current job until I get the HSMP decision. Plz be aware that I am on SEGS visa.

For 2 pieces of evidence for earnings, is it enough that I submit the wage slips and the letter from my uk employer mentionting about my job, description and monthly salary/ daily rate including the period.

Is there any idea about the processing time for 'Urgent treatment apps' ?

I am just trying to make sure that I submit all information with my app so that I don' t waste any time to get the decision (positive/negative).

Appreciate the comments from you guys.

Thanks.

Hi mate I think you can continue your work but you should apply for FLR(IED) before your visa will expire if you did'nt apply before your visa expire then it will be must for you to leave your job straight forward.
