stuck on a question on VAF4A settlement form. plz help

Post by t_kaay » Mon Jan 11, 2010 11:56 pm

Please can I get some advice. Just filling in the application form for my fiancee.

My fiancee was previously married but has been divorced for about 2 years.

Question 4.11 refers to her spouse/partners details. Now initially I was confused as to whether I am classed as her partner yet or not, as it asks about the sponsor (me) later in the form.

Reading the VAF guidance notes, however, it seems they want the details of her ex-husband in Q4.11.

So I'm confused as to why she needs to declare her ex as her partner when he isn't her partner anymore!!

4.11 Full name of spouse/partner (If single go to 4.16)
Please provide your spouse’s/partner’s given and family names as
they appear in their passport. If widowed, divorced or separated
please provide the full name (given and family names) of your former
or deceased spouse/partner. If you have more than one spouse or
partner please provide details in Part 9 - Additional Information.

As your fiancee is single( though divorced) you should not complete 4.11 and instead go to 4.16.

Do you understand it now?

The question is probably set up to accomodate those that are entering a polygamous marriage!

As always, thanks for your help batleykhan. The confusion arises because Q1.5 on the same form asks if she is single or divorced. Obviously the answer to this question is that she is divorced. But move onto Q4.11 and she is now answering it as though she is single and not divorced. The guidance notes state if she is divorced she should fill in her ex husbands details.
