Question about marriage certificate

Post by buttercup88 » Mon Jan 18, 2010 7:59 pm

So my husband and I just decided (finally) that we are 100% going to move to the UK.

We were married in the US but never registered our marriage with the embassy (we didn't think we would move to the UK).

We're now out of country so it would be extremely incovenient for us to go back just to register it with the GRO.

Is there anyother way we can get it registered?

or

is there any way to make the marriage certificate acceptable for my settlement application?

or

Can I just get a notarized copy from my state and present it without any other hassle?

Thanks.

If your marriage is legal in the united states, it's legal in the uk. You just need to have the original marriage certificate.
I tell it like it is.

the only advantage to registering it with the Register office in the UK is that if you lose your original you can order a copy from here in the UK - but it costs £100 to register

in any case, when making a visa application, you will still need to submit an original

your original marriage certificate is already acceptable for applying for a visa, you don't need to do anything else

I had to give the original to my state's registrar office to register it there.

Is a notarized copy good enough?

Also, I've been peeking around this site and see some people talking about an apostille???
