Post Graduate Diploma (University of Cambridge)

Post by FnkyDude » Thu Jan 28, 2010 6:33 pm

Hi,

I have a quick query. I have finished the Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Science from the University of Cambridge. Though it was a year long course and has a 10,000 words dissertation to it, it is called a post graduate diploma for historic reason (worlds first taught course in Computer Sciences!). I was wondering if I would be able to earn points for Tier1(General) for Masters by any means, as the points based calculator gives me none considering it as a general post graduate diploma.

Now this course has been replaced with a Masters Degree.

Some links!

Any advice in this regard would be appreciated as NARIC only judges courses from overseas!

If your qualification is not there in the PBS calculator or the calculaor doesn't award you points, then you don't get any points. Simple!

If the course has been replaced by Masters, then the University will be awarding Masters degree (I assume) to all who enroll since the change. But this doesn't affect you unless you can get a "masters degree" from the University in place of the current "PGD degree".

What's the general criteria upon which universities confer a Masters degree or a diploma? In my opinion masters or equivalent is where there is 2/3rds course work and the rest a dissertation of 10K words...which I did!

In my opinion the likes of Cambridge and Oxford uptight types stick to their traditional course names and that is where guys like me suffer :-(

Any one with similar experience of an answer towards a solution?

P.S. @sushdmehta thanks for the reply.
