urgent visa question

hi there,

quick inquiry about finacee visas. im american and have come to london on holiday where i have many close friends. while here one of my best friends has decided to propose to me (we always knew this would happen and we are so close already) and my return ticket is for tomorrow. i read that i must return home to apply for the fiancee visa, about how long does this process take if we have our ducks in a row and any suggestions or advice would be wonderful.

**also: is there any possible way to change my visa status while staying in the uk?? I doubt it but it doesnt hurt to ask.
