application sent on friday but not delivered

hi, i have sent my tier1 general application on 29/jan/2009 which is friday by recorded delivery. The mail went for delivery on saturday but could not be deliverd because it s a post box and saturday and need some one to sign. so it came back to durham delivery office for pick up by UKBA. When i called royal mail ,they said that the mail will wait there for 7 days and will come back if no one picked. 2 days (Mon,Tue) passed but still H.O did not collect the mail..

My visa expires on 6 th feb..

what to do if the H.O did not collect the mail?

Did any one face the same situation? Please advise ..

This is weird. Are you sure you have sent it to the corrrect postal address and not the courier address? I would also advise that you call HO and try to explain the case and see what they advise.

yes, i have sent it to the correct address and the address is ukba, tier1, P.O .Box: 496, Durham, DH99 1WQ.
i have all post office recipts with me..
i just called the H.O and they said they will collect it if the postman left any message in the post box with reference number..

But 3 days passed and i dont think they are going to collect the item.

As my visa expires this saturday and to be a legal in U.K, i am thinking to send another application tomorrow(thursday) and cover letter saying that i will send the remaining documents and passport as soon as i received them back.

Is that o.k?

Check with Royal Mail if, for Recorded Delivery, a note is left for the receipient that mail is awaiting delivery and must be collected within 7 days. If they say yes (and I believe they do leave a note), then there is no need to panic as it will be collected by HO - just as they collect applications sent by Special Delivery to the same Post Box.

The issue comes if Royal Mail leaves no note (which I do not think is possible - because how will the receipeint know that a post for him is awaiting delivery / collection).

If I was you i'd wait for the post to come back and then send them again with photocopy of mail receipt and a cover letter explaining the situation.
It's not your fault if they can't collect it, as long as you can prove it

skomati, did you really send that important letter just by Recorded Delivery? That is, didn't you use Special Delivery? Amongst other issues, do you appreciate that Recorded Delivery items are not given special security while in the post, and compensation is limited to £39.

Anyway, how do you know the envelope has not been delivered? Have you checked to see if payment has been taken? If not, certainly do that.

I make this point because it is not unknown for Recorded Delivery items to be delivered, but not signed for. On a number of occasions I have sent a letter by Recorded Delivery and later it is clear that it has been delivered, because the recipient has responded, but Track & Trace is still showing it as undelivered.

When this happens I always complain to Royal Mail, and invariably get a book of 6 1st class stamps as compensation, more than the cost of the Recorded Delivery fee.
