Tier 1 + Tax + NI Contribution

Post by 9004lgoldstar » Mon Feb 15, 2010 12:35 am

Hello Everyone
I am in UK on a Workpermit from June'09 and planning to apply for Tier 1 in March'10.
I have got all documents / maintenance fund ready. Just had a few queries in mind...
1. As of now I am paying tax on my gross salary. I am told that an individual has to pay NI contribution after 12 months of employment. Is that correct?
2. If I move from Workpermint to Tier 1 and still continue with the same employer, when will my NI contribution start. Will it be immediately i.e. if I get Tier 1 in March'10, does NI contribution start from April'10 or will it be aftee completion of 12 months i.e. from July'10
3. Can anyone give me some more inputs / suggestions. Do I wait till June'10 and then apply for Tier 1 or Apply in March'10. MY worry is around the NI contribution i.e. more deduction from salary in additions to Tax. Inshort does the NI contribution depend on Visa type or the time you spend in UK?

Not sure if any such NI waiver is available only to Tier 2 migrants (or in case of specific sub-category e.g. - ICT), or if this is due to the way your UK salary is structured, but in general, everyone above 16 who is either employed or self-employed and earning above a certain level is required to pay NI.

IMHO, no .. unless someone else can confirm that it is indeed so!

See National Insurance
