Effect of UK tourist Visa Rejection on Canadian Applications

Post by Specter1075 » Sun Mar 07, 2010 3:21 am

Hello all.

I am a Canadian citizen studying in Glasgow in the United Kingdom. My girlfriend is a citizen of the Russian Federation. We had made plans for her to stay here in Glasgow for 11 days at the end of March. I paid for her airfare and hotel in full in advance, and provided her with statements about my financial situation as well as a letter of invitation.

Her visa application was rejected on the following grounds:

1) The agent said that we did not provide sufficient evidence that we had actually met. I find this quite surprising since I have never heard of providing proof of knowing someone. He said that since he does not believe we have met, my offer of accommodation, while generous, is not valid. He cited that I was a student with no income, so I would be increasing my indebtedness with her visit. (I think the Government of the United Kingdom has no right to determine how I may spend my money.)

2) He claimed she was inexperienced as a traveler. This is completely subjective as she has had a number of Schengen visas and has traveled to Finland, Germany and Italy on a number of occasions; many of them with me.

I plan on appealing the decision based on discrimination and the insinuation that her being Russian increases her likelihood of being a mail-order bride or prostitute.

With all this said, I dont care about the current trip, or even future trips to the UK. When I finish my program I will be all too happy to leave the UK in my past forever. My concern however is that with this rejection she will have trouble getting visas in the future to other countries. In the summer I will be home, and will be attending a wedding. It is my hope that she will be able to get a tourist visa for Canada. I thought getting a UK visa would help her chances, but that obviously did not pan out the way I would have liked. Is there any correlation between her UK visa application and a Canadian application?

Thank you for your help, and forgive the long post.
