Federal Skilled Worker: 1 year of Full time Work exp

Post by Rajvar2008 » Mon Feb 22, 2010 10:21 am

Hi all,

I have a doubt about the Work Experience requirement for the Canadian Federal Skilled Worker immigration.

The requirement mentions at least 1 year of Full time "Continuous" paid work experience or its equivalent in part time work within the past 10 years.

this is my situation
2007 - 1 year of experience in a role unrelated to the skilled occupation i want to apply with

2008 - 6 months of experience in a related occupation

2009 - present - 6 months of experience in a related occupation

Do i meet the minimum work experience requirement?

Would appreciate your advise.

Thanks

Someone Please reply.

My question once again is that I have had breaks between all my employment periods. Does this disqualify me?

Thanks in advance

Where does it say that you have to have continuous work experience? As long as you have at least 1 year of expereince in one of the 38 occupations, you are ok. Of course, you still would need to have at least 67 points to qualify.

Hi Ray,

Thanks for your reply.

I pulled this from the Canadian immigration site.

Category 1: For persons in an occupation which corresponds to the list of occupations identified in the Ministerial Instructions and have evidence of one year of continuous full-time (or full-time equivalent) experience in that occupation;

Could you please explain what "continuous" means as used above.

thank you

Thanks for the link. I am not sure if this was always there or something that was added. I dont remember seeing this before, but may have just skipped over. In any case, it seems that they may require the experience to be continuous, if that’s the case, you may want to wait until you have 1 year experience in at least one of 38 occupations listed.

Thanks Ray,

I believe I can still apply though. Since I have one year of experience in one of the listed occupations, I dont think it has to be the exact occupation that I wish to pursue on arrival in canada.

Having re-read the requirements, the point about continuous work experience does not relates to a job in one of the 38 categories, but rather to your job history. That is, you need to have worked continuously for at least one year (full-time or full-time equivalent) in any job that falls under Skill Type 0, Skill Level A or B. But, in addition, you also must have at least 1 year (full time or equivalent) experience in one (or more) of the 38 jobs. For example, if you worked as follows, continuously, you would be ok:

January to June 2008 (6 months) of full time work in the listed job category
July to December 2008 (6 months) of full time work in another skilled (0, A or B) job
January to June 2009 (6 months) of full time work in the listed job category

In the above example, you held a full time position for over a year in the skilled category job, even though they were 3 (or more) different position, you should still qualify.

Hope this helps.

Ray
