New UK Res Permit - allowed to work in EU?

Hello out there. I'm new to this forum. I am hoping someone out there might know the answer to my question. I am an American citizen who has been living in the UK for over 4 years. I have finally been granted a Residence Permit so can work full time. I am looking for jobs and have just found one of interest in Ireland. Does anyone know if I can work anywhere in the EU with a residence permit? Or do I have to wait a certain amount of time?

Unfortunately a UK residence permit does not allow you to work freely elsewhere in Europe. If you want to work in Ireland, you'd have to apply for a work permit there.
However, if you have been granted indefinite leave to remain you could qualify for naturalisation in another year provided you meet the residence and good character requirements and a british passport would allow you to take up freely across the EU.

Thanks for your reply. I had a feeling that was the case. Do you know what my status would be if I were to enter a civil partnership with my british partner? My res permit was granted under the unmarried partnership law so we are in no rush to do the c.p. but if it opens doors for employment throughout the eu....

i'm guessing i need to stay put for another year or so...
