WP holder switching employer

Post by temo » Sat Mar 20, 2010 9:25 pm

Hi everyone,

Would appreciate can help me on this.

I'm in the UK on WP since Oct/2008 and I recently received an offer from a new employer that I accepted.
The new employer has (A) Sponsorship licence and they the advertised for the vacancy for more than a month before they offered me the position.

The new role is the same as my current one, but a higher grade.. better package... , at the mean time the prospective employer is in the process of (applying/transferring) a certificate of sponsorship. I was advised by the prospective employer not to hand in my resignation yet, until they tell me all is ok with the CoS transfer. And as I told them I'm planning to have a month break between the two roles where I’m planning to go abroad to my home country.. I was told it might be an issue and I might be better of re-applying from my home country.

My questions that I hope you can help with:
1- How long does it take to transfer/issue a CoS?
2- When do I need to let my current employer know? (Ã

Thank you for the prompt reply. very useful info

at the mean time its a challenge to take a long holiday from the office, and on the other hand I don't want to be abroad when the CoS is issued and I'm required to apply for a new visa... my understanding is the CoS is valid for a specified period of time!

Thanks again :)
