Dutch to live in UK & get married with Russian

Post by kingaru » Tue Mar 23, 2010 10:13 am

Hello All,

I have Dutch nationality and plane to move to UK for work. I have Russian girlfriend which currently lives in Russia but we would like to get married in UK after I'll move to UK. What are the rules and regulations in UK about this ? Is it possible even I'm not UK citizen? How complicated it is going to be?

Thanks for the feedback
Igor

kingaru, if you move to the UK and start working, your girlfriend will need to apply for a fiancée visa to come and join you.

Once you are married, she will acquire the right to stay in the UK with you and she can apply for a residence card.

If you marry before you come to the UK, then she can come as your family member using a Family Permit (which is free).

Personally, I would go the second route. It's free, and her rights are automatic.
