One of my friends had a delay in his Tier 1 extension for 5 month. In the end he received a refusal because the HO attempted to verify his income when he first applied for HSMP, and his employer confirmed he didn't earn that much. I don't know the situation in details, but i know for sure that all extension applications are now being checked for previous immigration history and documents that were submitted at that time.

I don't want to scare you, but this is what the HO could be doing - trying to verify your original application when you applied 2 years ago. Maybe they are having difficulties in verifying the information you had previously provided. Maybe there is another reason, but you don't know and nobody knows.

My advice would be not to complain. I know it is very frustraiting just sit and wait. But if you complain without specifying an urgent reason for your request, it won't have any impact. I believe you still have got a good chance of getting through, because the HO doesn't have an immediate intention to refuse your application. Good luck.
