What's consequence of switching visa category?

Hi all.
I am planning to switch to Tier 1 (PSW) visa from Tier 4 in a couple of months time (Once all required documents are ready). My Tier 4 visa is valid until April 2011 and my concern is that in case my application for PSW was refused what would happen to my current Tier 4 visa status. Will I still be a valid Tier 4 visa holder even after a refusal of switching the category or will I lose it once I applied for other category?
I would very much appreciate any advice.

your student Visa would be valid for as long as it is given on your passport. It doesn't make any difference to your current Visa status if an application made to the UKBA for another visa is refused..

potterbond007, thank you for your reply. My Tier 4 status is stated on my ID card, not on my passport. If you know could you tell me whether that makes any difference? e.g. UKBA might not return the ID card when they inform their decision on PSW and return provided documents or something.

u will be given ur id card back and ur student status would be valid for as long as it is..

potterbond007 you are wrong

dochas, they will not give you back your ID card, it will be destroyed for security purposes because the PSW visa condition will replace the previous condition.

the idea here is that you can work and study if you like with the PSW visa and you will no longer be attached to your place of study on tier4 basis.

Tier4 would still be valid and returned to you if your PSW was refused.

OMG!! Dont you bother to read?? I said that he would be getting his id card back and the student visa would be valid till it is in case the PSW is refused. That was what the question is in the first place!! Read, Comprehend and then answer.. Thanks..
