marrying abroard ! then applying for spousal visa .

Post by lulu22 » Wed May 19, 2010 2:47 pm

Hi all,

Im a uk citizen and plan to marry my mauritian partner in mauritias then apply for his sposal visa from there, can anyone give me an idea on how long the process can take if applying out of the uk ?
I know if we were in the uk it could be done in 1 day for £500 fee is this the same if applying in mauritias? or am i likely to have to come back to uk on my own and wait months for my new husband to be allowed to join me ?
thanks for reading

You can't apply for a spouse settlement visa from the UK. You may be confusing this with a Further Leave to Remain visa (FLR) which can be applied for in person and issued on the same day.
In Mauritius you will be applying on form VAF4a and the fee is currently £644. Processing times vary and may take several weeks if straightforward.

thank you casa for your quick reply :)
Could you advise me please on the implications of going out of the uk to get married (whilst my partner is on a valid student visa )and coming back into the uk still on student visa then applying in person for relevent FLR visa !!! Is this allowed ?
It would just stop all the messing around with cerificate of consent, i look farword to your reply.
thanks
