Dependent Visa - Council TAx Bill in my wife's Name

Post by Immigrant06 » Mon Jun 21, 2010 12:22 pm

Hi all

My wife is going to apply for entry clearance. I have got a house on rent, Should the council tax bill be in mine and my wife's name? Or it should only be in my name.

Your name will be fine I guess. As she is not occupying the house yet, she will not be liable for council tax and council sends bills on the name of people who are liable for the bill.

Though it is not relevant here, you can get a discount (25%) on the council tax for the period you live alone.

Hi Aruni

Thanks very much.

Should the tenancy agreement and the council tax bill both be in my name?

Best regards

If you want to produce both documents then yes they should be on your name.

Hi Aruni

I asked council initially to have the bill in mine and wife's name. They did it but now when I ask them to change it into only my name, they say they cannot because your wife is joining you in after some time.

Call and ask them that she is not joining you till the end of this financial year, then they have to do this or call them that you are leaving the house and send a final bill to you, once you get that bill then call them again and register with your name only. haaaha. I am soory but they understand these tricks only. its easy and nothing to worry about and one more thing is that this council tax is nothing to do with the dependant visa, your Tenancy agg is enough

Dont worry about it too much. If you have council tax bill on both the names it is fine. Just mention in your cover letter that you also included your wife in the council tax bill because she intends to join you soon. These bills accommodation proof etc are not mandatory. Having them is good. All the best!!!
