UPV - For how long the entry can be delayed?

Post by crystalclear » Sun Mar 26, 2006 3:23 am

Hi all this board is amazing.

I read on HSMP thread that you must enter UK within 3 months from date of visa issued. Is that applicable for UPV too? Do we have to enter on the exact date of EC issued which is mine in few days or can I slightly delay it? (I still have plenty of stuff to settle before moving, may need a month!)

Thank you so much for any replies, Crystal

Crystal, if you know there is definitely going to be a delay in you using that UPV then ask the British Mission for a deferred start date on the visa. They have the ability to defer up to three months.

A word of warning ..... having got the deferred start visa ... you can't change it later ... you are stuck with that. For example, if on 28th March they issue a visa with a 1st June start date, it is not possible to think late April that you would like to travel early May.

Why ask for the deferred start date? Because in two years time you will want to get ILR and you could encounter problems if you don't enter the UK at the latest by 28 days after the start date on the visa.

Picking up on your words ..."may need a month" ... if you will definitely need say two weeks, but no more than a month, ask for a two week deferment to the visa start date. That was you have some flexibility but the two week deferment will not put you under so much pressure.

john thank you for reply.

i have been granted 4 years. i am moving as quickly as i can right now. it might not be a month or more than 28 days (you are right i was just thinking ballpark earlier). say if i wanted to leave 2 weeks later than my EC date issued would i still have to go to Brit mission (say tomorrow) to get it deferred or could i just got on a plane 2 weeks later instead?

i am sorry for such a silly question just curious as to what will happen if i did not request for a deferred date? will i be turned down at the POE?

thank you, crystal

Crystal, I am confused by the type of visa you have. Earlier you said UPV, and now you talk about a four year visa, but I would have expected just a two year visa.

Can you clarify exactly what sort of visa you have?

Hope that helps.
It might have been useful to mention that before. The ILE visa, it has a date on it? That is the final date that ILE visa can be used.

But still not sure about all this. Could you post what is actually printed on the sticker now in your passport? (But leave out your name). Also the same for your partner's visa.

just wanted to post an update. we entered uk 25 days from date of issue. we did not request for deferred visa date before entering uk. just got on the plane and flew in. the immigration officer stamped our passports with dates we arrived and we did not encounter any problems at POE e.g. we did not get turned down. hope this helps for those who might be in similar situation. cheers
