dependent visa

hi my wife got visa till 2013.. but my visa ending 20th of october this month.. i want to apply to change my status as a dependent.. cn anyone advice in which account should i maintain my fund.. in my account or in my wife account.. who gonna be the main applicant , is it me or my wife..
