English test for South Africans?

Post by lkpone » Mon Sep 13, 2010 4:15 pm

Hi

I've just come across this...

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitec ... e-partners

I'm from South Africa, am due to apply on the 8th December and can only speak English... I very barely can speak Afrikaans, which was my second language at school. Do I seriously need to take an English test? SA doesn't appear on that list, so it appears so. I know I have to take the Life In The UK test, but this too??

Thanks!

It's okay... I phoned UKBA a little while ago and clarified... we don't, although it doesn't make it very clear in that link. I hope the lady I spoke to was right... I know they're notorious for giving different information every time you call.

Sorry... thought it would be obvious because I'm in the ILR forum and I was asking about Life In The UK test etc that it was ILR that I'm applying for. As a spouse. I've been on unmarried partner for 2 years, but have married in the interim :)

Thanks!

Thanks! That's what I thought, but I was thrown a bit when I went onto the UKBA website, and saw the huge banner update announcing the English test requirement from the end of November and South Africa wasn't on the list of predominantly English speaking countries.

Very relieved and thanks again for your clarification! :)
