Help needed with doubt in Ireland Working Visa/Authorisation

Post by arianashok » Wed Apr 05, 2006 10:25 pm

Hi friends,

The Working Visa/Authorisation is not clear to me. Could you please clear the following doubt?

It says:
This makes it possible for prospective employees with job offers from employers in Ireland to obtain immigration and employment clearance in advance from Irish Embassies and Consulates.
But it also says:
The Working Visa/Work Authorisation scheme does not replace but is a faster alternative to the Work Permit Scheme
My question is - If I am eligible for this scheme, Do employers still have to prove/show that they have not been able to find a Irish/EU national for the job?
As my profession (I am from India. I have a bachelors in computer engineering, Masters in IT, 3 years software development experience) is on the skill shortage list, can they straightaway offer job to me without the need to advertise?

If not, in what way does this Working visa/authorisation help us?

Please help me. I apprectiate your views in this regard.

Thanks in advance,
Ashok

Hi there,

there are two ways of coming to Ireland to work.

The old way and more commonly used way is to to use a Work Permit which was granted
* only if you have a job offer from an employer
* if you are from outside the EU, the permit can only be granted if the job has been advertised inside the EU and expanded EU for a min of 4 weeks
The work permit is only valid for the period of your employment and if you or your employer quits your contract, your visa expires. There is also a limited period of validity on the work permit

The work visa/authorisation was brought in to fill certain skill shortages in Ireland. These work visas are based on the person rather than the contract.
You still need an employer to sponsor your application, but they do not have to prove that they advertised in the EU. Also, if you or your employer quit your contract, you can stay on and find a new job. The visa is valid for 2 years (i think), after which time you have to reapply to get a new visa based on a new job. IT is definitely a skills shortage on the list so if you have a job offer, you should be in the right skills area to get a visa.

You apply to your local Irish embassy. This application may be forwarded on to Dublin for review
