ILR appointment in 2 weeks at Sheffield

Post by nathanbroome » Sat Oct 09, 2010 7:23 pm

Hey one and all, this is my first post on this site so please forgive me if similar posts to this have been posted 1,000 times before :D

My American wife has her ILR appointment at Sheffield on 22nd of this month. I basically want a few queries answered regarding our application. She entered UK on 5/11/2008, visa expires on 27/10/10. She hasn't claimed benefits at all since here, I've never claimed in my life. Neither of us have any criminal convictions. We earn about 1800 quid a month after deductions between us and we rent my dad's second home exclusively and he kindly only charges us 300 quid a month  . She's passed the life in UK test no problem and we have her certificate. Here are the documents we will be providing-

Miscellaneous Documents-

Application Form
Both Passports
2 photos of my wife, 1 of me (with names on back)
Life in UK test pass certificate
Marriage Certificate
Covering letter explaining some aspects of our application

Proof of our finances-

6 months joint bank account statements
Wife's last 12 months payslips
Wife's P60 from last tax year
Wife's new job offer (dependent on achieving ILR)
3 months of wife's E-ISA statements (about 1,500 quid in there now)
My tax return info for 2009/10 (I'm self employed)
My accounts and accountants report for 2009/10
My accounts and accountants report for 2010/11 thus far
3 months of my E-ISA statements (about 3,000 quid but majority of this to pay for 2009/10 tax bill)
3 months of another of my saving accounts (1,100 quid in it to pay for our application)

Proof of our cohabitation-

Approximately 50 letters addressed to me and my wife covering almost every month from November 2008 to now from various official sources. The majority of which are not joint documents.
Original tenancy agreement when we first started renting my dad's second home.
Letter from my dad outlining his intent to continue renting us the property.
Details of trips we have made together in the last 2 years.
Wedding anniversary cards over last 2 years.

Ok! That's our documents covered. Sorry this post is huge :)

Here are some queries I have-

Is it worth including a cover letter for an in person application? Will they actually read it?

Will it be a problem that we don't have many joint documents? Like I said, we have many, many documents addressed to us singularly at the same address from loads of sources.

They're my main questions. If anyone else can point out any potential issues with our application I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance! :)

Documents don't have to be in joint names.

Thanks for your reply. What about the rest of our application? Does everything look reasonable?

Thanks :)

Wedding anniversary cards not necessary, nor is the covering letter for an in-person application.

Documents can be in both of your names, jointly or individually, just need to cover the same period at the same address. :)

Good luck! It all looks fine! :)
