How to change Family visitor visa to Dependent visa?

Post by sivap75 » Sat Oct 09, 2010 9:38 pm

I plan to take family visitor visa for mydy wife. My wife will stay with me in UK for few months (max upto 6). Can my wife's visitotr visa be changed to Dependent (Tier-1) while she is in uk or, can it be done only after the expiry of the visitor visa. Please advice. Thanks

She will have to go back to home country to change into dependant visa from a visitor visa.

Switching in to the dependant route

I read this in UKBA site: ''It is not usually possible to ‘switch’ to a different type of visa after entering the UK with a visitor visa. '' . I am afraid and confused whether I can apply for a dependent visa for my wife even after her family-visitor visa expires (in 6 months). Can anyone please clarify?

Cannot be done, neither before expiry nor after.

Also, family visitor visa application by a dependent of Tier 1 (General) migrant may be refused for the same reason - no intention to return - unless strong evidence is shown to prove that the applicant will return to home country on expiry of visit visa.
