WCTTE vs Citizenship

Right, I have been married to an Irish citizen for 7 years now (I am Non-EU), and since then i have been on stamp 4. I have applied for Irish citizenship in 2008 and never heard back from them even though i know they have received the application in order.
I tried everything i could to trace the application down but since i never got the reference number they couldn't find it in the system.
Now, the application might still be in the process but on the other hand it might have finished in the bin. I will never know.

At this stage, to be honest, I am really pissed off with this crap going on.

I want to know, could i apply for WCTTE after being married for 8 years?
Or could i apply for citizenship in my own right solely on the basis of the time spent in Ireland?

you can apply for WCATT stamp after spending 8 years in ireland. You can apply for citizenship in your own right after spending 5 years.
how do you know that they received your application in 2008? if they did, it should be on the system and you would have received an acknowledgement with your ref number. they could probably check by your 69/ reference number, or your name... if it's definately not there, i would suggest to apply again, if you are still interested in becoming irish.

I know they have received the application because the post office have confirmed the delivery. (registered post).
I was on to the MRCI in regards to this and i was told that i can legally force them to recover the application and not to apply again. The problem is i have lost the tracking number from the post office I have sent numerous emails to all corresponding INIS departments and never heard back from any of them.

i am not if citizenship replies to emails. why don't you send a letter by post. that way you will definately get an answer. have you tried calling the helpline?

Is it true that if one apply for WCATT he/she gives up the chance to be naturalised, I heard from someone but not sure? Could someone shine a light on this if they know.

No. You could have heard it from the informationary booklet or from it copy on the web, where it says something like that "If you do not want to apply for citenzenship, get WCATT". However, one does not exclude other.

Best to send them a letter by registered mail. Keep copies of anything you submit or send to them.
