Hi ive been in Uk since 1997 lawfullyand unlawfully ,and i applied for ILR in january 2009 but the HO dont recognize my reference number so they cant find my files ,does any of you guys have a similar experience and can you give me some advice.

Do you still have all your passports?

Note that if including illegal stay, then Long residence requires 14 years' residence.

no i dont have my passport because i gave to the HO when entering

"When entering?" - so were you held up when you arrived in the UK, and either refused entry or served with IS81 requiring you to submit to further examination, then granted Temporary Admission from which you absconded?

If that is so, then UKBA at Croydon won't have anything on their main database, and they're probably not intelligent or well-trained enough to find you on the warehouse system of old databases.

If this is your situation, telephone the port/airport which originally dealt with you, and ask them for your port reference number. They will have sent your file to storage somewhere. Alternatively, if you already have a reference number, contact UKBA again and tell them that they need to search for you on "Warehouse" by using permutations of your name, date of birth, nationality, and reference number. Describe to them exactly the history of your arrival and what happened after that. With any luck you might get somebody who's been there for more than five minutes and understands how to interrogate the old systems.

sorry I didnt give much info.
I came to Uk 1997 claimed asylum ,got refused 1999 after lots of appeals.
Since 1999 ive just been surviving and living ilegally.
In 2009 i heard about the Legacy program ,I applied in January and havent received anything from H.O since then .
So theres already nearly 2 years what im wondering is if any of you had a similar experience?

Well, you don't qualify under the 14 year rule, and won't, either.

You may come under the legacy programme. That's a very slow one, though.
