Hi all, What are maintenance requirements to switch from PSW to Studnet visa? Do I have to show funds for 9 months or less?
I am already in the UK and have been living here for last 3 years.

Hi,

Depending on which area your college is, you will need to show funds for 28 days if you are still in the UK and your post study visa does'nt expire one month before the start of your course.

I think this is the right info but someone else might have something to add. Hope this helps.

Switching PSW to Tier 4 Studewnt visa

Post by kyn6339 » Sun Oct 24, 2010 10:31 am

Hi, I am currently on PSW and is due to expire on 20/11/2010. I will start MBA course in Oct 2010. As far as I know, I can study MBA using the current PSW. The question is can I apply for tier 4 student visa while I am in UK. Because I am confuse with some said I have to return to my home country and apply the student visa. Please clarify this for me. Many Thanks.

Also, am I too late for applying for Tier 4 as is less than a month now but my course will start in Oct 2010.

In other case, if my course start in Jan 2011. What is my option. Would the home office granted my tier 4 visa to stay here till jan 2011 before my course start? I will have all the neccesary docs. As far as I know, I am allow to stay here for one month before course start for course more than 12 month. However, in my case it would be about two month. Please advice me. :D Thanks

I will probably coose the course to start in Oct 2010 rather than jan 2011 as I know the hassle in home office against immigrant. What is your advice. Much appreciated

Hi,
Let me try and help you but am not an expert. I switched from PSW to student myself but just recently & I have not got my decision.

You can apply while you are in the UK. This is what I did. You need to use the application form in the UKBA website for those already in the UK.

Since your current PSW visa expires in November and your course starts in October, you are ok. The problem is when your current visa expires say in September 1st and your course starts in October 31st - there is a one month gap so you have to go home. Make sure you apply for Tier 4 before your current PSW expires.

Sorry I do not understand what you are asking here.

Since your current PSW expires in Nov 2010 and your course starts in Oct 2010, I would apply now asap for a Tier 4 visa. Do not wait until your current PSW expires. Make sure you know what is required. If you need any more help let me know. Like I said, I am not an expert but just trying to help because I was in this category as well. Thanks

Switching PSW to Tier 4 Student visa

Post by kyn6339 » Sun Oct 24, 2010 11:23 am

Hi, Many Thanks for your quick reply! :D
The question I posted early regarding "in other case". I want to ask if my course start in Jan 2011, I have to go home?Because I actually haven't secure a the MBA course yet but I am sure I will secure. If case not I will go for the second option.

Regarding the docs, my fund is fully supported my my relative who is PR in UK and own a house. I am living with her so my cost living is reduced significantly. I would like to ask weather I have to show my cost of living in the bank statement. Also I will use my relative bank statement to show to the home office. My cost is 12 months so 9x£400=£3600. As I know the home office require £400/month for cost living for 9 months. Am I correct? Also my relative will write a letter with signature as well to support my docs. It is good enough for the require for maintaince cost?

What are you studying? Did you manage to obtain work during the two years in PSW? What was your undergraduate degree. I just want to know because I have not secure a proper job in my field. I am a graduated from mechanical Engineering with a year placement from Brunel University. Also I am intend to apply for PR after 10 years. Do you know, does the PSw two years count towards THE LONG RESIDENCY? What is your situation in PR. I still have 1 year and half to go.

Hi, that's ok. Its always a good idea to help people if you can!.
Yes, you would have to go home as I understand it because your visa expires in Nov 2010 and your course starts in Jan 2011 so one month gap.

The cost depends solely on where you are going to study. As you have not received an offer for an MBA you do not know this. If you are INSIDE LONDON, the cost is £800. I know this because this was my case. If you are OUTSIDE LONDON, the cost is different so please check the UKBA website.

I used my own personal account as proof of maintenance funds because it is so much easier. I am not sure about the rules of using someone else's account. You need to check the UKBA website but your assumption sounds correct for your relative to provide a letter and signature and also their bank statement. Please check UKBA website for all the things you need.

Yes, I was one of the lucky ones to get work after I graduated for 2 years but it was difficult - just kept applying & applying. I did undergraduate in Computer Science.

I have heard many different stories about whether the PSW counts to Permanent residency. Some say it does, some say it doesnt. I havent really investigated because I am not at that point yet. I have been in the UK for about 7 yrs so still a while to go.
