Early Tier 1 Extension

Can i apply for tier 1 extension (2nd extesion as i entered in uk 3 months after my initial HSMP Visa) 8/9 months before my tier 1 visa expire. i dont care if they grant me extension from date of application as i am only 3 months short of 5 yrs requirment.

I read in many sources that you can do it. Indeed, they'll give you extension from the date of applying only, but you don't worry about it anyway.
