Pending UK sub tier 4 visa application

I have submitted an outside UK visa application as a Tier 4 dependant for over five months with no reply. Can someone tell me why is taking so long?

I would suggest you that you should try and contact them by all means, email, fax or telephone. Store the email and fax copy as this might be useful as a proof that you have tried to contact them.
