British Citizenship for wife and child if I moved abroad

Post by anon150 » Sat Dec 25, 2010 5:08 pm

Hi everyone,

I am a British Citizen and got married in Pakistan to a pakistani citizen in 2007. I am planning to move to Pakistan where my wife and child are based. I was just wondering if at a later stage in life, will my wife and children be able to apply for british citizenship.

If so, what are the requirements?

Thanking everyone in advance.

Till a week ago, you were not married!

Under current rules:
1.If you and your spouse live outside the UK for at least 4 years then your spouse may be eligible for ILE (similar to ILR), and then after staying in the UK for 3 years he/she may be eligible for British citizenship.
2. If you wish to return to UK before the 4 years stay (outside UK) is over, then your spouse will need to apply for settlement visa to enter UK, live in the UK for 2 years to be granted settlement (ILR) and then apply for citizenship as and when he/she completes 3 years residency in the UK as spouse of a British citizen.
3. Child(ren) born to a British citizen father will be British (British by descent if born outside the UK).

Apology is appreciated. Could you ask your friend to register under their own name and post their queries. It avoids confusion.
