original marriage certificate for Tier1 dependent necessary?

Post by mittoo » Thu Dec 30, 2010 9:35 am

Hi, I'm from Gujrat, India. My husband and I got married a month ago. , likewise, we did court marriage as well at Valsad district in Gujarat. My husband is on tier 1 visa and now I need to apply for Tier 1 dependent Visa. I have all the necessary supporting documents with me except the original marriage certificate.
The Registrar present during the court marriage event has refused to give us the original marriage certificate, saying that there is a government resolution, which doesn't allows them to do so.Is there any such rule in Gujrat which forbids giving the original marriage certificate?
In case if we do not have original marriage certificate what can we do? Please help.

Kind Rgds.

Thanks for the reply, but the registrar has only given us the true copy of the marriage certificate and not the original one. The registrar is saying that they are not allowed to give the original certificate as per norms by the Gujarat government.
Can't we provide the photocopy and get an attested letter issued by the registrar stating that it is not allowed as per government norms?
We are not the first people to face this problem, there are many gujrati's living in UK, does they face a similar problem? Pl. respond.
Many thanks.

Marriage certifiate is must. If such is the rule in Gujrat then wait till a Gujrati guy can reply.

Alternatively, if possible, try to register your marriage in another state e.g. if your husband is based in some other place then he might be eligibile to register your marriage there.

A True Copy of the Marriage certificate which is NOtarised by the same Registrar should be good with Marriage invitation/ Photos of the event. You can additionally mention in your covering letter that in Gujarat you don't get
the originals . But as per my knowledge my friends from Gujarat have got their originals. May be the registrar is after some kickbacks to issue you the originals.
