My wife and I would like to apply for her settlement visa, but after reading the information about settlement visas I am still in need of clarification.
I am a british citizen and my wife is from Guatemala. We have been in a relationship for 3.5 years and got married in Guatemala earlier this month. I have now returned to the UK to find a job and we will wait until I have work before we apply for her settlement visa to join me here. However, I have recently finished my PhD and do not have any savings. I am currently living at my mothers address.
If when I find a job, can I put my mother's address as our planned address to live? This would obviously cut our living expenses. The house has three bedrooms so there would be plenty of space for us to live together as a married couple with our own privacy.
If this is not allowed and we need to rent somewhere on our own, does anyone know what the minimum income might be that I would need to be able to show to prove that I can support us both until she is able to find work here.
Also, having read some other people's stories on this site, I am now very worried that I may have made a mistake leaving my wife and returning to the UK so soon after our marriage. I thought I was doing the sensible and responsible thing by coming here to look for work, but now I'm concerned that they might question the strength of our relationship!?
I would really appreciate any advice anyone has on this either of these matters.
Thanks
