Hi everyone, got a funny situation here... I am an dependant on Tear1 (in the country more then 3 years). But relationship with my wife deteriorated and very soon the divorce will come through. As rules say, if this happens i got to leave the UK. My question: is there anything i can do to stay in the UK legally...I am in building trade, doing reasonably well, got lots of satisfied clients and with contracts of more then £35000 for first four month of the year. ..........Or no matter how good you are but if you a dependant u a goner? do not know if you are goner or not but very sure there is no criteria like you are good or bad to determine whether you can stay in UK. There is something for people with exceptional talent etc but your achievement does not qualify for that.

So, just to make it simple.... Is there any loophole or else so you can manage to do something about "dependant after divorce" or there is no hope at all?....Thanks

You will need to qualify in your own right. Unfortunately your options are limited..

- Ancestry if you have english born grandparents
- Irish citizenship if you have Irish born grandparents
- Tier 1? if you are able to switch from Tier 1 dependant (not sure but probably not) and have a degree and meet earnings requirements

no loopholes as such, as a dependant your permission to stay is based on your partner.

In my opinion, the system didn`t think of all the possibility, and out of all this, coming that dependant is nobody, some kind of ..... very unfair.

If dependents of British Citizens or settled residents have to either qualify in their own right for leave to remain in the UK or leave the UK if the marriage breaks down before ILR, the UK is hardly going to be more generous to dependents of temporary (until ILR) economic migrants.
