Can someone with student dependent visa register a course?

Post by applyingvisa » Mon Feb 21, 2011 11:08 pm

I'm on a student visa and currently pursuing a postgraduate research course, which requires 3~4 years to complete, at a UK university (let's say Uni-A).

My wife is accompanying me and she is on a student dependent visa. After several months of my course registration, now my wife is interested in doing a postgraduate study too. If we've enough fund (e.g. to cover tuition fees and living expenses), can my wife register a full-time course at Uni-A?

Thanks.

What will happen in future if I've completed my course but my wife still has not finished her course? I'm not sure if it will be problem since my wife is on student dependent visa...

If her course finishes after her leave expires, then she should apply for entry clearance.

At that time, which type of visa will she apply? My guess is she needs to apply her own student visa. Can she apply it in UK at that time?

Let's say my wife has registered a course with Uni-A and our visa (my student visa and her student dependent visa) will expired in July 2011. The JACS code of my wife and my courses begins with H6.

Since I am not able to complete my course before July 2011, I start planning visa extension application now. According to the regulation (i.e. my current visa was issued after 30 Nov 2007), I need to request a new ATAS clearance certificate from Foreign and Commonwealth Office for applying extension of stay to complete my course. In this case, does my wife need to apply a ATAS clearance certificate too?

If you can extend/switch (245ZX) for longer than six months, then she can also extend/switch (319C).

Thanks vinny.

For student visa extension application, as mentioned earlier, I will be the main applicant whereas my wife will be on student dependent visa. In our visa extension application, do we need to tell my wife is also doing her study in the same university? For example, to prove that my wife will have enough fund to cover her tuition fees.

no, if your wife is applying as your dependent and not as a tier 4 student in her own right then you don't need to show funds for her tuition fees.

Thanks Greenie.

For your information, the JACS codes of my wife and my courses begin with H6.
According to the regulation (i.e. my current visa was issued after 30 Nov 2007), I need to request a new ATAS clearance certificate from Foreign and Commonwealth Office for applying extension of stay to complete my course.
In the ATAS online application form, I need to fill in the Spouse Details (see attached figure).
In our case, do I need to fill "YES" or "NO" for the Spouse Intentions section? Or, in other words, does my wife need to apply a ATAS clearance certificate too?
