Job offer to speed up the process

Post by AlexStiva » Tue Jun 22, 2004 7:06 pm

I have some question regarding this opportunity and it would be nice if one may clarify some of them:

1. How long will it take to get the visa granted after sending a job offer ?

2. Are there the same prerequisites for a job offer as in WP scheme ? (I mean job adv for several months etc.)

3. How better to describe it to potential employer, that it is not so complicated to get a visa comparing to WP in my case (I applied more than 6 weeks ago).

Thank you very much.

With job offer you may "request" them to process yr case faster, but no such rules

My housemate submitted his "normal" application on the 6th of April and waited in the "normal" queue like everyone else. He applied from Australia.

Then, on the 15th of June he got a job offer to work for the UK government. He faxed off that job offer to the HSMP people with a request to speed up the processing if possible.

They ended up processing his application the very next day and he received his approval letter in Australia the next week. He is going down to the High Commission here in Canberra on Monday the 28th of June to get his EC.

Is it possible to get a job in a UK governmental institution without UK citizenship or indefinite leave

yes, if you a EU national or a citizen of a commonwealth country with the right to live and work in the UK, you can employed in the civil service. The only exceptions are places like the FCO and Defense which have strict British nationality requirements

Does this mean that an HSMP holder cannot work in the Civil Service.

no, if you are a commonwealth citizen, with a HSMP, then you are eligible to work for the Civil Service (as long as there are no British Nationality restrictions for a particular department).
