UK Ancestry

Post by Bezho » Tue Mar 15, 2011 1:53 pm

Hi.

I am on an Ancestral visa for 5 years. It expires on 12-01-12 but I only entered the UK on 11-03-07.

I have read and been told I can only apply for I.L.R 28 days before the 5 year period is up?

How do I go about getting an extension for that time of January and February and what are the costs etc?

Many thanks

Yes.

Extending your stay as a migrant with UK ancestry

Alternate solution:
Under current directions, you should apply for an extension before your leave expires. However, if they haven't decided by the time you are eligible for ILR, then you may vary your application to ILR.

Thanks for that.

The link you gave me is the application form for a Commonwealth citizen. I am from Zimbabwe and we are not part of the Commonwealth. Do I still use the same form?

And is there only one price even though I'm applying for about a month only?

To be eligible for leave under "UK ancestry", one of the requirements is that the applicant must be a Commonwealth citizen (186 and 189).

Zimbabwe withdrew from Commonwealth membership in 2003 but you were granted leave to enter (visa) in 2007.

Unfortunately, UKBA doesn't charge according to the "length of leave needed"! You apply for leave and it will be granted in accordance with immigration rules.
Under UK ancestry, you should be granted 5 years leave to remain if your application is approved (190).
