Joint tenancy agreement for Spouse Visa??

Post by www.confused.com » Thu Mar 17, 2011 8:54 pm

Hi!

I need to know if it's essential to have both myself and my fiance's name on a tenancy agreement as proof of living together before we get married as a supporting document for the spouse visa? I was going to move in with him but his landlords said for some reason that he can't put me on the tenancy agreement :(

Is there anything else we can show as proof of living together that's NOT a tenancy agreement with both our names on it?

Or does it not even matter if we don't have proof of living together before we get married?

If a tenancy agreement proving we have lived together for a while before getting married is important proof, then we will move somewhere where we can have both our names on it :)

Much thanks in advance for replies :)

There is no need for you to have lived together before marriage in order to qualify for a spouse visa. However, if you have lived together then this can be additional evidence that your relationship is genuine.

thanks! I guess as it's quite 'normal' to live with someone before you marry them that it would look better though?

We will have lived together, just won't have tenancy agreement with both our names on it :(

Not really neccessary to live together before marriage but if you did get the landlord to write a letter to say that you did live there and moved in after tenancy agreement was created include any bills in your name sent to that address too.
