Original welcome letter from HMRC

Post by mskhan » Tue Mar 22, 2011 6:56 pm

"iv) Original welcome letter from HM Revenue & Customs: Applicants who have recently registered as self-employed will have received a welcome letter from HM Revenue & Customs containing their unique taxpayer reference number, but may not yet have the other evidence above. The original, dated document should be provided.
HM Revenue & Customs will issue the welcome letter or the small earnings certificate at any time up to six weeks from the date of first contact with the self-employed applicant."

Now on the welcome letter, though it mentions UTR, it doesn't say what date you made the first contact with HMRC. How to provide the date on which we register with the HMRC.

Cheers

Class 2 NI invoice will state : What period you owe for...?

Which shows any period prior up to three months...

Alternatively if you send a letter immediately to HMRC requesting for your invoice summary they will send you the complete statement which includes your Class 1 NI (Employment) and Class 2 NI (Self-Employment). This states your start date as self-employed (Class 2 NI payee)

This could take up to 10 working days...
[If you are applying for tier-1 Extn. then it is worth waiting,
Else you may fall short to apply before April 5th for tier1-initial application]

However i received with in 7 days,

mention the following lines in your letter

I would like to receive an National Insurance Statement to support Home Office application showing my National Insurance Contributions, to facilitate the Visa purpose

Thank you for your reply.

However, as it is mentioned in the guidance that if you just have registered with HMRC, you might not have NI contributions available. In this case send the original welcome letter.

Now I am confused as to how my letter say that what date I have register with HMRC?

Thanks

This states your start date as self-employed (Class 2 NI payee)

This will not state your exact start date but it will show you are falling with in your start date,

In my case, i started trading from last 1st October 2010,

My NI 2 Contribution start date says 'from 26th September 2010'

which is understood that iam trading since 1st October 2010
[Which your accountant will mention in their letter]
